It's incredibly gratifying to read reviews from satisfied clients. And when, along with the feedback, you discover genuinely helpful tips from a stylist, you want to share it with the world. That's exactly what I'm doing! Let's find out how to put together a family look for a photo session on your own.
Define the style and be sure to find a visual reference to show the photographer.
Gather all the suitable clothing items from what you already have and take a photo of everyone together just the way they will be used in the photo session, with all the accessories and footwear. Sometimes, the images in your mind come together perfectly, but when you start laying out everything side by side, something may stand out in terms of color or style. If something is missing, consider buying it, borrowing from friends, or asking the photographer if they have anything you need. Stylist's life hack: you can take items from a store and then return them, provided they remain in perfect condition (be careful, don't cut off the tags, don't sweat in them, and make sure there are no technical hangers sticking out).
Carefully plan hairstyles and makeup separately and find a visual reference for them as well.
Dress up at home in the prepared looks a few days before to avoid discovering that something is too small, too big, or dirty.
If something is too large, bring tape, pins, and belts with you.
For children, bring non-messy food (e.g., sliced apples), but never cookies!
If you're not getting ready at home (makeup, hairstyling), then your husband and children should arrive at the beginning of the photo session, not at the beginning of the preparations.
Good studios always have steamers, but that doesn't mean you should bring a pile of wrinkled clothes. Prepare your clothes at home, and steam out any minor wrinkles at the studio. Arrive a bit earlier to account for the time spent on this.
